Junior Pope: How Crew member Precious Ofurum was honored in Rivers State

The death of Nollywood Actor Junior Pope and crew members on the 10th of April 2024 is still very fresh in the heart of many because of how tragic it was. The Actor and Crew members died in a boat accident at River Niger, Anambra on their way to the location for a movie shoot in Asaba, Delta State for Adanma Luke production.

Since the sad event occurred the Nollywood industry have been mourning the loss of Junior Pope and the crew members and also trying to support the bereaved families.

On the 17th of April 2024, Nollywood Rivers State which is a Coalition of all Nollywood Guilds in Rivers State did a walk round the city of Port Harcourt to mourn one of their own, Precious Ofurum, who died alongside a popular Nollywood actor, Junior Pope Odonwodo and other crew members.

Precious Ofurum who is from Ubima in Ikwere Local Government Area of Rivers State, Until his death the youngstar was a sound engineer for movies and a source of light to his family; these were confirmed when the convener of the walk, Eric Stephenson, a movie director and producer, in company of other good people in the entertainment industry, paid a condolence visit to the family. Precious Ofurum left behind his twin sister, other siblings and Parents.

The walk started from Pleasure Park Port Harcourt down to Rivers State Government House with the deceased family, Nollywood Rivers State community, friends and supporters joining the walk.

The walk ended at the Rivers State Government house and they were received by the Rivers State Head of Service, George Nweke who represented the Governor of River State Simlaye Fubara. He addressed the family and the Nollywood community by encouraging them to take heart, did a one minute silence for Late Precious Ofurum and further stated that he died as a hero because he didn’t go out to do a shady business but died while trying to make ends meet. The essence of the walk was to raise funds and give the Late sound engineer a befitting burial as requested by the family.

The family later agreed to exhume the body of their son and bury him at the end of the month. They have also been getting financial support from some communities and individuals through the media, the Nollywood Rivers State community also raised funds for the family.
