After so many years of pleading for the Ogoni Clean Up exercise finally the cries of the people have been heard as there would be a change in Niger Delta.
Although the project was officially launched and flagged off by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo alongside the Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike with former Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha and others in June 2016 there is still great excitement by the people for this exercise.
The Ogoni clean-up project is the first of its kind by a Nigerian government in the oil-rich Niger Delta environment that had been devastated by decades of oil spills.
Here are reactions from people;
Its a good news to hear about #OgoniCleanUp . However it shouldn’t be a political talk its good that its happening though it will take years to clean. Lets know that; thats where the oil money comes from..
I’m hoping when the #OgoniCleanUp is done, petroleum companies will be more considerate in avoiding polluting the environment.
The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, MOSOP, has stated that the people were lucky that their long agitations earned them the clean up of their impacted communities by the Federal Government.
