Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has added her voice to the ongoing conversation about rape and physical abuse against women in the country.
Quite recently, prominent members of the society have been accused of abusing women both physically and sexually and it has sparked a conversation online.
The singer has decided to add her two cents to the issue.
In a series of posts on her instagram stories, the “Ma Lo” hit maker stated that she is embarrassed to call herself a Nigerian because of recent happenings.
Tiwa Savage lamented the treatment being given to women and children in the country.
She mentioned that she will do her best to raise her son in a way that he will respect women and treat them like queens.
Check out her posts below:
Big Brother Naija star Bamike Olawunmi popularly known as BamBam revealed she was raped by her ex-boyfriend and a spiritual leader.
“My heart has been heavy since this rape situation started. Like I feel physical pains in my heart,” she says. “I’ve been truly sad and have never wished that justice be truly served to these heartless! Insensitive! Brutal! Unrepentant rapists!!!
“Cos I have been there, I know what it does to the mind and self-esteem of the victim. It was with an ex-boyfriend and a spiritual leader I trusted. Took me meeting another man who saw me for me before I healed completely. Sadly I couldn’t end up with him, but God used him.”
Admitting that men also get raped, BamBam called on all to love one another.
She said: “Be kind to women, some men have been raped too. Truly be kind to people, you don’t know what true love and true transfer of kindness love and light can do to another person. I’m in tears as I type cos it hurts really bad just remembering and knowing how victims feel.
“Cos when you take the body of another without their consent you mentally scar them too! Yo! I trust God and want to trust the law to do the needful!
“I tried not to relate this to my personal self but when you hear experiences you lived, you become restless, memories hunt you. I have been refreshing all the updates on the movement/protest for tomorrow.
“Something in my head keeps ringing would justice be served this time? Another is hoping and praying that it is truly SERVED rightly! I cannot overemphasize how a win for Busola will be victory for all!”
Actor Akah Nnani has declared that he is no longer a member of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly after head pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo was accused of rape.
The actor also called on all members of the church who have a conscience to boycott the church until the matter is resolved.
According to Akah Nnani, it took him quite some time to face the facts but now that he has finally seen the light, he will not sit by and watch innocent people be destroyed by the pastor.
He also mentioned that there are a number of powerful church leaders around Pastor Fatoyinbo who are protecting him from the law.
In his post on Instagram he wrote:
“After watching @busoladakolo account, I believed her 100%. But I was advocating for proper procedures of getting justice on this matter because of reasons best known to me.
Again, I was still in shock too. I admit, I still am in shock. I’m also not a fan of jungle justice or court of pubIic opinion because I suffered it in secondary school wrongfully.
But after the behaviour of the church organisation today on this matter, not just the pastor, there is no need.
It is shameful for me to call myself a member of that church.
A friend said to me “his moves are like that of Pablo Escobar”. I couldn’t help but agree. It has taken me time, but I am finally here.
We will say it for what it is. Until facts state otherwise, Pastor @biodunfatoyinbo is a rapist.
There is a syndicate around him that protects him, and this involves Pastor Flo of Lagos Church, Pastor Wole of PH parish, church staff, other ministers and I dare say, his wife.
I am no longer a member of that church. I call on every one who has a conscience to boycott @cozaglobal.
Thank you to every Nigerian fighting. Thank you to every celebrity using their voice. You understand that your influence is not for you. Thank you. I drew strength from your voice.
We continue to pray for him that God will touch his heart to own up to his cri nomes and the light of God to expose everyone involved in the syndicate.
I stand with Busola Dakolo, I stand with every woman who has been raped. I stand against rape and rape culture.
I stand against the rot in the church. @timidakolo I am 100% with you. #istandwithbusoladakolo
I rest my case on this matter now.
Let the place scatter!!”
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sapphire Group and member of COZA church Wale Jana has apologised after he accused singer Timi Dakolo and wife, Busola Dakolo of strategically defaming his pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo.
Busola in an interview with Chude Jidenowo on Friday accused the man of God of raping her when she was only 17-years-old.
According to her, Pastor Fatoyinbo came to her house one morning unannounced when her mother and sisters were not around and raped her.
Moments after the interview gained prominence, Wale Jana mounted a strong defence for his pastor while alleging that Busola and her husband fabricated the rape story to push their products.
He said: “I know the world gets emotional the moment a woman mentions that she was raped but if you will take a minute to think objectively; the oldest way a woman can try to destroy a man is to accuse him of rape. Any man is guilty of this offence in the eyes of the public until otherwise and if she has a little social status like the wife of a struggling musician like @timidakolo it makes it look credible.”
He continued: “Why is she doing this? Timi and wife are a pawn in a conspiracy and also because it will help him sell some records which he desperately needs to sell, they will also trend for a while, she has already opened unbroken.ng an online platform to cash in on the drama just like @esewalter and then it’s over!”
Wale’s remark was vehemently criticised by a section of the public. After a sober reflection, the COZA church member has rendered an unqualified apology.
His Instagram post reads:
“There has been a lot of misunderstanding due to my earlier post and Its important to clarify that I DON’T SUPPORT RAPE! I am a father of two lovely daughters and a beautiful wife.
“I am surrounded by women; Sapphire Group is made up of close to 1000 women and we have done a lot for women empowerment and will continue to do so. I apologise to everyone my previous post has offended as it is insensitive to victims of rape. Pastor
“Biodun Fatoyinbo has also come out to refute the allegations leveled against him, it is now a legal matter and the truth will come to light.
“Please accept my apologies and I will be more sensitive in the future.”
See apology below:
Musician Banky W and public service reformer Dr Joe Abah have publicly promised to provide funds for Busola Dakolo to cover her legal fees should Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo sue her.
But Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of the Common Wealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), has denied allegations of rape against him by Busola Dakolo and is threatening to “pursue every measure within the ambits of the law to bring the culprits to justice”.
Although Fatoyinbo admitted that Busola Dakolo and her family “attended the church during the early start of the church in 1999”, he claimed he “never had any private interactions with her beyond my pastoral duties.”
Reacting to the pastor’s denial and threat to sue, Dr. Abah said he will “set aside a little money to contribute to her defence” and pleaded with others to do same.
His plea seems to have fallen on fertile grounds as Banky W also promised to assist in that regard.
Businessman Wale Jana has slammed wife of Timi Dakolo, Busola for accusing COZA pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo of rape.
Wale Jana, who is a member of Pastor Biodun’s COZA church, Busola and Timi are accusing the pastor because they want to destroy him.
“I know the world gets emotional the moment a woman mentions that she was raped but if you will take a minute to think objectively; the oldest way a woman can try to destroy a man is to accuse him of rape,” he wrote on Instagram.
He also alleged that Timi Dakolo wants to use false accusations to sell records as he is currently struggling in his music career.
“Any man is guilty of this offence in the eyes of the public until otherwise and if she has a little social status like the wife of a struggling musician like @timidakolo it makes it look credible.
“Why is she doing this? Timi and wife are a pawn in a conspiracy and also because it will help him sell some records which he desperately needs to sell.”
Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has also jumped to the defence of Biodun Fatoyinbo, Pastor of the Common Wealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), over rape allegation by Busola Dakolo.
However, Omokri stated that Mrs. Dakolo’s story did not add up and strong enough to nail the pastor.
In a thread of tweets on his verified Twitter page, Reno said, “I have NEVER liked Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA for reasons that I will not say publicly. However, I am mature enough to divorce my emotions and be led by logic. And I counsel those now condemning him to do the same.
“The average Black African is easily moved to hysteria by excitable emotions. This is why it is RIDICULOUSLY easy to manipulate Africans with the media Satan does his best work with such people, who can’t suppress emotion in preference to logic.
“Think. Don’t emote. A pastor comes to your house early in the morning. He does not know who will open when he knocks, or who is at home. He knocks and immediately you open he pushed you to a chair and raped you in your pyjamas. Do people think?
“Even the most USELESS movie director won’t accept such a plot in a B rated Hollywood/Nollywood/Bollywood movie. A movie has to have PLAUSIBILITY. I don’t like pastor Fatoyinbo, but I won’t suspend my intellect because of my dislike of the fellow.
“After he allegedly raped her, she kept quiet for enough time for him to go to his car and get a soda drink for her? It does not ADD UP. My dislike for Biofun Fatoyinbo won’t make me become a SLANDERER by default. This story rings very FALSE.”
Omokri added that though he did not support immorality and rape, the story could not stand up in court.
He also warned Christians to be wary of the plot by the devil to manipulate the minds of Christians.
“I am an advocate of morality. For years, I publicly preach against premarital and extramarital sex. I pastored a congregation in Abuja for years. I will NEVER, EVER, support RAPE. But Satan is going about like a roaring lion seeking whom to consume!
“Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo is SLEEK. Too sleek for my liking. What type of sleek man will rape an underaged girl in HER PARENTS HOUSE? While HER SIBLINGS are AT HOME. And then leave her to go get a drink from his car. Is this mass HYPNOSIS?
“Do we Black African of the Nigerian variety think at all? Do we only exist in the soulish realm? I have a Masters in Law from England. The story CANNOT stand up in court. The story CANNOT stand up in the light of cross-examination.
“I give you my word that if you gave satan 10 minutes to manipulate the minds of Nigerians, he will get a sizeable number of Nigerians to believe that Jesus is evil and the Satan is good. We are too gullible, excitable and emotional. #ForTheBodyOfChristNotForFatoyinbo.”
Nigerian celebrities have lined up to express their views about Busola Dakolo’s shocking allegation of rape she made against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA.
Busola in an explosive interview with Red Media’s Chude Jidenowo accused Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA church of raping her when she was only 16 years old
However, pastor Fatoyinbo in a statement denied the allegation and threatened to sue Busola for the malicious remark.
Against this background, a host of Nigerian celebrities have expressed their support for the wife of musician Timi Dakolo and slammed pastor Fatoyinbo in the process.
Don Jazzy said: “thank you for being a voice for the many women that don’t have the courage to speak out yet. It is important we let our mothers, sisters, daughters know that you cannot be bullied for speaking the truth”.
Former BBNaija star Cee-C posited that: “Every human has a right to tell their story. I will not stand around and watch anyone try to silence a woman for speaking their truth.
“We live in a society where women suffer abuse daily and are too afraid to speak, for fear of condemnation. Any woman finding the courage to speak is nothing short of bravery in my eyes and nobody has a right to try to silence or discredit them.
“I understand my stance may bring about certain consequences but it is important to me to make it known that I don’t support shaming or discrediting a woman for her truth.”
On his side, Nigerian musician Banky W lauded Busola for speaking up.
“You are an incredibly brave and strong lady, I’m so proud of you for speaking your truth. You didn’t speak up for yourself alone, but for all voiceless victims who have been put through similar horrors. Sending love, light and support your way. God bless you my dear. God bless you.”
