A new partnership between the world largest Chinese textile company, Hieng Yuan Xiang and the Rivers state government to increase the fortunes of the Real Madrid Academy in Port Harcourt has been facilitated.
While the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike signed the partnership agreement for the state with the Chinese Textile company, the Board Chairman of Hieng Yuan Xiang, Mr Liu Ruiqi signed for his company.
The agreement was signed during a meeting facilitated by Mr Gianni Merlo, the President of the International Sport Press Association (AIPS) on the sidelines of the 83rd Congress of AIPS holding in Budapest, Hungary.
Governor Wike said the partnership will expand the frontiers of the Real Madrid Academy located in the second largest economy city in Nigeria.
The governor explained that his administration initiated the Real Madrid Academy to groom future international football stars.
It was also intended to empower the less privileged children in the state by giving them the opportunity to actualize their potentials in Football and academics studies.
Governor Wike stated that world class football and basketball facilities have been completed at the academy premises.
There are additional classrooms and hostel being developed, he said and will be completed ready before the next academic session.

Mr Liu Ruiqi gave the assurance that his that his company will work along the path of it’s interest in the partnership to develop the Real Madrid Academy in port Harcourt.
He explained that his company is one of the key sponsors of Beijing Olympics, the Chinese Football Team and other sports activities.
AIPS President, Mr Gianni Merlo said the Real Madrid Academy in Rivers state is a worthy football project that deserves support and encouragement.
Mitchell Obi, AIPS President (Africa) while urging HYX to support the Real Madrid Academy in Port Harcourt because it is a veritable empowerment tool, he stated that Governor Wike has already been honoured as the greatest promoters of sports in Africa with the Power of Sports (POS), Africa award.
