On the 5th June was the World Environment Day which made many of us to reflect on our environment, marking the day, the Global Shapers Community in Port Harcourt a network of inspiring young people under the age of 30 who are driving dialogue, action and change and are working together to address local, regional and global challenges decided to confront the status quo in Port Harcourt as it relates to the environment by creating citywide awareness and promoting actions to protect the environment.
In response to the growing concern for the environment and in celebration of the United Nations World Environment Day 2019, The UN theme for 2019 was tagged Air Pollution’ which aptly captures the recent concerns of Soot in the atmosphere in Port Harcourt.
The Port Harcourt Global Shapers decided to commemorate this day with an Awareness Walk and Education Campaign aimed at driving into the consciousness of the people and the government, the environmental dangers and challenges that the state currently faces and the urgent need for alternative environmentally friendly habits and practices in order to preserve public health and life in the state.
Thankgod Okorisha the Curator of Global Shapers Community Port Harcourt said in an interview that the Climate is rising which is a global issue and everyone needs to get involved. He further stated that one of the ways to save the Climate change is to plant trees and planting trees would reduce Climate.
