Nine primary school pupils who had consistently won overall best trophies in academic based national competitions for Rivers state singer 2015 were greatly honoured.
The children who are in schools supervised by the Rivers State Universal Basic Education board were hosted at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.
Receiving the school pupils, Governor Wike commended them for making the state proud. The pupils won overall best awards in the National Lafarge Literacy Competition, National Quiz Competition on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, National Mathematics Competition, Science, Creative Writing and Computer Science.
Governor Wike granted the pupils university scholarship of ten million naira to each of them. The governor directed the chairman of the state universal basic education board to liaison with parents of the pupils about the individual accounts that will be opened for the pupils.
All the parents must agree to the condition that they will not tamper with the money when it is paid into the account which will only be accessed when the pupils have gained admission to university.
Governor Wike urged the pupils to redouble commitment in their studies to remain the best in their academic pursuits. He also commended the organisers of the competitions for providing the children the platform to brighten their talents.
Governor Wike urged them not to relent on their studies because their future is bright and should not also allow those who not interested in education to become their friends.
Chairman of Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, Fyneface Akah said the Rivers children presented to the governor are fruits of the intentional academic services of board extended to developing rural academic talents, infrastructure and the promotion of literacy.
