PortHarcourt mall explosion which happened on the 12th June 2019 led to injuries on some casualties but no confirmed death report.
The shopping mall on Wednesday encountered an ignited fire which left at least five persons critically injured.
The incident which happened around 4:00 p.m. forced the early closure of the mall.
It was gathered that the fire started at the continental cuisines’ kitchen, a section within the mall which cooks and serves Chinese and other continental dishes.
Amongst the victims of the explosion, five workers in the kitchen were seriously burnt and are receiving treatment at University Of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
An eye witness who spoke to gistalways.ng said the incident happened at about 4pm today.
That the gas explosions occurred at the continental Chinese kitchen which resulted to a huge fire.
The witness said he couldn’t stand the screaming and bleeding from victims of the fire. There was also a report on one dead casualty but it hasn’t been confirmed.
The eye witness said; i saw victims’ skin peeling off like burnt clothes as he cried, I couldn’t watch, to be honest.”
Efforts to reach the mall’s management failed at the premises was sealed by security and no one was allowed to enter.

Meanwhile below is a statement by the Rivers State Government concerning the incident;
The Rivers State Police Command was today 12/6/19 at about 1750Hrs greeted with the sad news of an explosion at the Kitchen Section of the Port Harcourt Mall (SPAR) where five persons sustained various degrees of burns.
They are currently receiving medical attention at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH) PH.
Meanwhile normal business activities resumed shortly after the incident, as people went about doing their shopping.
Investigation has been ordered by the Commissioner of Police with a view to ascertaining the cause of the incident.
However, it is important to note that, preliminary Investigation conducted revealed that the explosion has no semblance of a terrorist attack nor attack of any kind from outside.
Further note that, No life was lost as being speculated in some quarters.
