We present to you the review on Bate vs Arsenal and analysis on Malmo vs Chelsea

Bate vs Arsenal
Stanislav Dragun headed in the only goal of the game as Arsenal had Alexandre Lacazette sent off in a shock defeat in Belarus.
Arsenal have work to do if they are to reach the last 16 of the Europa League after slipping to a surprise 1-0 first-leg defeat to BATE in Belarus.

Unai Emery’s side were caught cold in sub-zero temperatures on the stroke of half-time, Stanislav Dragun’s header ending their run of five successive clean sheets in the competition.

Alexandre Lacazette had a potential equaliser ruled out for offside before he was shown a straight red card for throwing an elbow at Aleksandar Filipovic in the closing minutes.
Even when they had 11 men, the Premier League side struggled to capitalise on their territorial dominance, leaving them with a deficit to overturn in the return fixture next Thursday.
Considering the freezing conditions, Arsenal unsurprisingly took their time to warm to the task at hand.

The visitors’ only chance of note in the opening half saw an unmarked Lacazette carelessly head over the top after being picked out by Sead Kolasinac’s inviting cross to the back post.

Dragun did not make the same mistake at the opposite end when getting on the end of a free-kick from captain Igor Stasevich, though, giving BATE the lead with an impressive header that curved over Petr Cech.

The Gunners had been spared from conceding earlier in the game by the woodwork, Nemanja Milic flicking the ball against a post from point-blank range when trying to provide the finishing touch to Maksim Skavysh’s dangerous low delivery.

Lacazette did locate the net from another Kolasinac delivery from Arsenal’s left soon after the break, only for the referee’s assistant to correctly raise his flag against the over-eager Frenchman.

The former Lyon star also found the target when flinging his arm back into the face of Filipovic when under pressure from the defender, forcing his side to finish a frustrating evening a man down.

Malmo vs chelsea
Chelsea recovered some pride after their 6-0 thrashing away to Manchester City with a 2-1 Europa League last-32 victory at Malmo.
Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud scored as Chelsea earned a 2-1 win away to Malmo in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 meeting.

Chelsea had lost their past four straight away games in all competitions without scoring, a run that had its nadir in Sunday’s 6-0 humiliation at the hands of Premier League champions Manchester City.

Against more modest opposition at Swedbank Stadion on Thursday, Chelsea took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals either side of the break by Barkley and Giroud.
But although Maurizio Sarri’s men appeared to be cruising to a morale-boosting win, Malmo will travel to London with hope after Anders Christiansen’s excellent late reply.
Pedro floated in a cross from the right channel and, after defender Lasse Nielsen slipped, Barkley collected the ball and stabbed it past goalkeeper Johan Dahlin.

Arnor Ingvi Traustason fired wide at the end of a goalmouth scramble as a series of set-pieces caused Chelsea problems before the break, but Malmo’s wasted openings were punished in the 58th minute.

Brazil winger Willian raided down the left and fed Giroud, who cleverly beat Dahlin with an improvised close-range finish to score in his fourth consecutive European appearance.

Dahlin made a great save to deny Barkley his second of the game but, after the introduction of Eden Hazard as a substitute, Chelsea were caught on the counter.

Christiansen burst on to a perfectly played throughball by Markus Rosenberg and beat Kepa Arrizabalaga with a placed finish to cut the Swedish side’s deficit ahead of next week’s Stamford Bridge return.

Suspended chief justice Walter Onnoghen, after ‘skipping’ previous court dates, is at the Code of Conduct Tribunal where he is facing trial for non-declaration of assets.

The tribunal ordered Mr Onnoghen’s arrest on Wednesday after he was repeatedly absent from hearings.

The justice had contested the powers of the tribunal to hear the case of alleged asset falsification against him.

On Friday, Mr Onnoghen arrived the tribunal in the Jabi district of Abuja at about 10.00 a.m. amidst heavy security.

Mr Onnoghen was brought before the tribunal on January 14 on a six-count charge for his alleged failure to declare some bank accounts in his asset declaration form.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state has insisted that it will take party in the forthcoming general elections in the state despite a Supreme Court ruling reportedly barring the party from contesting in the elections.

In a statement on Thursday, February 14, argued that there was no judgement from the Supreme Court or any other court preventing it from being included on the ballot paper for the Rivers elections, according to Premium Times.

The APC said from the rulings on the case so far, INEC has an obligation to include the party’s name on the ballot papers. “After a meeting of the State Working Committee of our party in the State today in which we meticulously deliberated on the recent court rulings of various courts especially the decision of the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt yesterday to further re-affirm two earlier orders that stayed the execution of the judgments of the lower court, our conclusion is that the APC and it’s candidates will now, most certainly, be on the ballot this Saturday.

“No order or judgment given since, including orders given by the Supreme Court on both jurisdiction and representation have said otherwise,” the party said in the statement signed by Chris Finebone, the party’s spokesperson in the state.

And President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the exclusion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state from the forthcoming elections, saying he is disturbed by the development.

We are seeing a lot these from President Buhari as the elections gets close, he addressed the nation concerning the election and all. See it all below;

Fellow Citizens,

On Saturday, February 16, 2019, you will, once again, be called upon to choose the leaders who will pilot the affairs of our great nation for the next four years. This is a constitutional right which should be freely exercised by all eligible voters.

2. I wish therefore to start by assuring all Nigerians that this Government will do its very best to ensure that the 2019 elections take place in a secure and peaceful atmosphere.

3. It was indeed such free, fair and peaceful elections that made it possible for our Government to emerge, despite the fact that we were contesting against a long-standing incumbent party.

4. And as your president and a fellow Nigerian, I ask that you come out and queue to fulfill this important obligation you have to yourselves and your fellow citizens – and to our common future.

5. Let me at this point, reaffirm the commitment of the Federal Government to the conduct of free and fair elections in a safe and peaceful atmosphere. Just yesterday, I signed the Peace Accord alongside 72 other presidential candidates.

6. I want to assure all Nigerians, the diplomatic community and all foreign election observers of their safety and full protection. Any comments or threats of intimidation from any source do not represent the position of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

7. As Government has a critical role in maintaining the democratic traditions, so do citizens. I therefore urge you all, as good Nigerians, to take a personal interest in promoting and maintaining peace in your respective neighbourhoods during the elections. This is certainly not a time to allow personal, religious, sectional or party interests to drive us to desperation.

8. At this point, I want to make a special appeal to our youth: Do not allow yourselves to be used to cause violence and destruction. The people who want to incite you are those preparing the ground for discrediting the elections. Having lost the argument, they fear losing the elections.

9. When you elected me in 2015, it was essentially in consequence of my promise of CHANGE. We committed ourselves to improving security across the country, putting the economy on a sound footing and tackling rampant corruption, which had in many ways become a serious drawback to national development.

10. Our Government spent the last 3 years and 9 months striving faithfully to keep this promise, in spite of very serious revenue shortages caused mainly by a sharp drop in international oil prices and an unexpected rise in the vandalisation of oil installations, which, mercifully have now been curtailed.

You can watch also

11. We nevertheless pressed on in our quest to diversify the economy, create jobs, reduce commodity prices and generally improve the standard of living among our people.

12. The damage that insecurity and corruption have done, over time, to our collective livelihood is incalculable. However, it is pleasing to note that our frontal attack on these twin evils is gaining momentum and bringing about visible progress.

13. The recovery of the economy from recession is complete and Nigeria is back on the path of steady growth.

14. The key to creating more jobs lies in accelerating this momentum of economic growth. Happily, we have succeeded in making the fundamental changes necessary for this acceleration, and we are now beginning to see the efforts bearing fruit.

15. Our ease of doing business policies and programmes are already impacting medium, small and micro industries, as well as Manufacturing, Mining and Agriculture, among other key sectors.

16. Our commitment to critical infrastructure – that is Roads, Rails, Bridges, Airports and Seaports – will create more jobs, improving the efficiency and competitiveness of our industries.

17. Many of these projects are at different stages of completion, and those who use them regularly will attest to the fact that even while construction is ongoing, they are beginning to see reduced travel times. This will ultimately translate to reduced costs and greater convenience, making transportation, and business in particular, much easier.

19. The economic recovery that we promised is well underway, as demonstrated by the recently released statistics. In 2018, the economy grew by 1.93%, with the Fourth Quarter growth being 2.38%, up from 1.81% in the Third Quarter.

20. Remarkably, the strong economic performance was driven by the Non-Oil sector, which grew at 2% as at full year. Indeed, Non-Oil growth rose to 2.7% in the Fourth Quarter of 2018, up from 2.32% in the Third Quarter. These results further underscore our commitment to diversifying the economy away from the past dependence on Oil.

21. Other indicators confirm the economy’s steady recovery. Our monthly food import bill has declined from $664 million in January 2015 to $160 million as at October 2018. Inflation fell from 18.72% in January 2017 to 11.44% in December 2018. Our External Reserves have risen from $23 billion in October 2016 to $43.12 billion as at 7th February 2019.

22. Now that the recession is well behind us, our next task is to redouble our efforts, accelerate the growth and use it to create even more jobs for our people.

23. The Executive Orders, No. 5, and No. 7 issued by me, and the recently approved National Infrastructure Maintenance Policy demonstrate our commitment to accelerated job creation and infrastructure development.

24. We believe that Governments cannot simply proclaim jobs into existence. Job creation will only expand as a result of economic policies that enable the private sector to flourish, and this is the approach our Administration has taken.

25. Executive Order No 5, which Promotes Nigerian Content in Contracts, as well as Science, Engineering and Technology, will preserve and prioritize job creation for our citizens.

26. Executive Order 7, on the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme, seeks to mobilize private capital and capacity for infrastructure development.

27. It responds to the demands of manufacturing and industrial complexes which wish to construct access roads without waiting for government, so long as they are allowed to recover the cost from taxes they would have paid to government.

28. We expect that this approach will boost industrial expansion and rural development, consequently creating more jobs for our people.

29. Similarly, our recently issued Maintenance Policy targets artisans, carpenters, welders, tailors, painters, bricklayers, electricians, plumbers, landscapers and many more Ordinary Nigerians at the base of our economic pyramid who will get regular and large-scale opportunities to improve themselves.

30. It is an economic solution that also brings the relevant artisans and professionals into long term sustainable employment to maintain our Schools, Court Rooms, Hospitals, Police Stations, Federal Secretariats and other Public Buildings.

31. Human Capital Development has also been a key priority for this Administration, which has increased investments in health and education. Innovative measures have been introduced to complement the traditional budgetary allocations to the relevant Ministries.

32. For instance, Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority has invested US$21 million in three healthcare projects as a Public Private Partnership with three Federal medical institutions. These include two modern Medical Diagnostic Centres located at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano and the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia; as well as one outpatient Cancer Treatment Centre in Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos – which I commissioned on 9th February 2019.

33. Of course, our radical commitment to developing Critical Infrastructure is the foundation upon which we will deliver an all embracing national prosperity and a shared commonwealth.

34. There is no country that aspires to greatness without spending massively on its Critical Infrastructure. Rather than the discredited policy of ‘stomach infrastructure’, which could only benefit a few for a little while, we are focused on real infrastructural development for the growth of our economy and the long-term benefit of all Nigerians.

35. When you voted for our message of CHANGE, you invited us to assume office and depart from that bad and most regrettable choice. We have responded by making a choice for real infrastructure of Roads in every State, Housing in 34 States, Power Stations across Nigeria, Rail from Lagos to Kano.

36. The choice that now confronts us is whether we want to continue with real infrastructure development, which is the road to prosperity and jobs or return to the era of ‘stomach infrastructure’.

37. Agricultural Self-Reliance and Food Security is also a choice we made in fulfilment of your mandate for change.

38. Our Presidential Fertiliser Initiative has resulted in savings of US$150 million in foreign exchange due to local sourcing of inputs at 16 Blending Plants. It has also conserved N60 billion in Subsidies as well as supported tens of thousands of farmers and agro-dealers nationwide.

39. Our Anchor Borrowers’ Programme has substantially raised local rice yields from as low as two Metric Tonnes per hectare, to as high as eight Metric Tonnes per hectare.

40. Through this programme, the Central Bank of Nigeria has cumulatively lent over N120 billion to over 720,000 smallholder farmers cultivating 12 commodities across the 36 States and Abuja. Targeted crops and livestock have included cattle, poultry, fish, cassava, soybeans, ground nut, ginger, sorghum, rice, wheat, cotton and maize.

41. As a result, we have seen a remarkable rise in the production of key agricultural commodities. I am pleased to note that in major departmental stores and local markets, there has been a surge in the supply of high quality Nigerian agricultural produce.

42. Behind each of these products, are thousands of industrious Nigerians working in factories and farms across the nation. Our interventions have led to improved wealth and job creation for these Nigerians, particularly in our rural communities.

43. Again, these outcomes have been a major departure from the previous focus on consuming imported food items, which literally exported our children’s jobs to food-exporting nations, whilst depleting our precious foreign exchange reserves. This, of course, caused a closure of our factories while keeping open other peoples’ factories.

44. The choice made by this Administration to assist farmers directly and promote agriculture in every way possible has gone a long way to enhance our food security while enabling us to tackle poverty by feeding over nine million children daily under our Home-Grown School Feeding Programme. It also puts us clearly on the road to becoming a food secure and agriculture exporting nation.

45. Next to Agriculture, we are focusing on Manufacturing Sector. The Purchasing Managers Index, which is the measure of manufacturing activities in an economy has risen for 22 consecutive months as at January this year, indicating continuous growth and expansion in our manufacturing sector.

46. I will conclude by going back to where I started: that our choices have had consequences about employment and cost of living.

47. In making your choice this time, please ask yourself whether, and in what ways, others will do anything different to address the issues of Agriculture, Infrastructure, Security, Good Governance and Fighting Corruption.

48. If they are only hoping to do what we are already doing successfully, we are clearly your preferred choice.

49. Think carefully and choose wisely. This time, it is a choice about consolidating on growth for Jobs and Prosperity.

50. February 16th is all about a choice. But it is more than a choice between APC and the opposition. It is a choice about you, it is a choice between going back or keeping the momentum of CHANGE.

51. The road to greater prosperity for Nigeria may be long, but what you can be assured of is a Leadership that is not prepared to sacrifice the future well-being of Nigerians for our own personal or material needs. You can be assured of my commitment to remain focused on working to improve the lives of all Nigerians.

52. Thank you very much for listening. God bless you, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Yes the analysis on the games continues, for Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund
Tottenham will take a 3-0 advantage into their Champions League last-16 second leg with Borussia Dortmund after victory at Wembley.
Tottenham took a huge step towards the Champions League quarter-finals as goals from Son Heung-min, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente sealed a 3-0 first-leg win over Borussia Dortmund.

Son converted Spurs’ first shot on target at Wembley on Wednesday as the Bundesliga leaders were made to rue a string of first-half misses.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggled in the opening 45 minutes but, as has often been the case in the Champions League this season, they found the net in the second period.
After Son’s first European goal of the campaign, late efforts from Vertonghen and Llorente put the Premier League title contenders in a fantastic position heading to Signal Iduna Park in three weeks
Tottenham went agonisingly close to opening the scoring in the seventh minute when Lucas Moura’s volley fizzed wide of goal, the Brazilian having controlled Davinson Sanchez’s header on his thigh.

It would be as close as Spurs would come, though, as Christian Pulisic, Axel Witsel and Thomas Delaney all forced saves out of Hugo Lloris.

The France international had to be at his acrobatic best in the closing minutes of the half as Dan-Axel Zagadou rose to meet Jadon Sancho’s cross, the goalkeeper clawing the ball away at full stretch.

Having weathered the storm prior to the break, Spurs opened the scoring two minutes after the restart as Son peeled away from Zagadou to volley Vertonghen’s pinpoint cross past Roman Burki.

Toby Alderweireld went close to doubling Tottenham’s advantage from a Christian Eriksen corner moments later, but Burki was on hand to keep his header out.

Mahmoud Dahoud wasted a great chance to draw Dortmund level, his meek effort easily saved, and Vertonghen showed him how it should be with a fine volley from Serge Aurier’s deep cross.

Substitute Llorente headed in a third in the closing minutes from Eriksen’s corner to ensure Spurs take a commanding lead into the return fixture.

Ajax vs Real Madrid
Ajax were narrowly beaten by Real Madrid, having had a goal controversially disallowed by the video assistant referee.
Real Madrid snatched a 2-1 win over Ajax in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday, as VAR made a controversial first appearance in the competition.

Having had a Nicolas Tagliafico goal disallowed in the first half after a review, Ajax found themselves behind through Karim Benzema’s 60th goal in the tournament.

Hakim Ziyech thought he had secured a deserved draw for the home side at Johan Cruijff ArenA, but Marco Asensio struck late on to put Madrid in control of the tie.
Ajax started strongly, Dusan Tadic collecting Lasse Schone’s headed pass and smacking the outside of the left-hand post with a bending effort from 18 yards out.
Another fine passing move saw Tagliafico, David Neres and Tadic combine to set up Ziyech in clear space in the box, but Courtois raced off his line to save.

It looked like Courtois had gifted Ajax a deserved lead when he fumbled Matthijs de Ligt’s header and allowed Tagliafico to nod in the rebound, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review, seemingly because Tadic was blocking the keeper from an offside position.
Neres spurned another presentable chance when one-on-one with Courtois, but Madrid were beginning to offer a greater threat of their own, Benzema forcing a good low stop from Andre Onana with a half-volley.

With an hour gone, Madrid found the breakthrough. Vinicius Junior raced onto a ball over the top from Sergio Reguilon, skipped his way across the box and teed up Benzema to fire into the top-left corner of the net.

Substitute Kasper Dolberg blasted another good opening over the bar, but Ajax finally found the net when Ziyech side-footed past Courtois from Neres’ precise cross.

But with three minutes of normal time remaining, Dani Carvajal raced down the left and curled a cross into the box that escaped Onana and was tapped in by Asensio.

We all most survive Valentine’s Day…lol

Let’s talk about Love shall we? February is the world acclaimed month of Love amongst other things, everyone knows it, even a child knows it.

It can get really tiring and frustrating especially with couples boldly professing their love for one another.

If you are single, in a situationship (yeah, I said that), a long distance relationship, this can be a really trying time for us.

Its easier and more tempting to become discontent, to settle for less or to keep dwelling/hanging around a dead relationship.

During this period, I believe it’s best to actively put yourself first and remind yourself of your worth and that you are happy in this season.

Here’s how we do this boldly and like a boss
  • Remember why you are single

You are single because you haven’t met the right person and not because you are undesirable. With  all the pressure going around, its easy to forget your many marvelous attributes and you may even begin to wonder if you being single isnt your fault.

Far from it, you are desirable, remind yourself of this every moment of every day. Remind yourself that you are single simply because you havent found the right one and not because you aren’t worthy of love.

  • Remind yourself that being single is fun:

You can do what you want, when you want it without having to really consider how it affects anyone. You can stay out late or early, you can switch off/disconnect from the world without worrying how your partner will take it. You can make new friends and connect/spend time with more people. You have yourself to yourself, you can kick back on a quiet night and watch a movie (Netflix and chill with yourself). You get to spend more quality time with you, which is AMAZING.

  • Remind yourself that you do not have to settle for less than what you want:

Like that guy/girl who has been making passes at you but you are not interested suddenly its almost Valentines day and you are beginning to think of settling.

NO! this is the worst time to be thinking, don’t even go there, never settle, you deserve a partner that sparks something in you, you deserve passion and love and you owe yourself those things. So please remind yourself that you don’t want this person, stop talking to them for a while if you have to, to avoid hasty and wrong decisions. If you need to enlist a friend to keep you straight and narrow, then do that.

  • Take care of you:

Valentines day is for lovers right? You love yourself right? So why, why arent you dressing up to work?

Why aren’t you booking a mani/padi sessions for yourself? Why aren’t you scheduling an at home movie date with yourself? Why arent you getting yourself a gift?

Please remind yourself that you don’t need to be in a relationship  to take care of you! So go ahead and spoil yourself, be your own valentine. Spend time with you, read, drink a glass or a bottle of wine, do whatever you want that makes you really happy.

  • Stay away from things/people that will trigger you:

Vals day is not the day to do anything outside or at public places especially if you are having a hard time.

Forget that hard girl/boy front, if you know you are not doing good or you are having a hard time dealing with being single on Valentines Day. Then please do not be found around any restaurants or popular Vals day locations.

Yes do fun things but do them in your house or in places that won’t trigger you to do something unwanted. Like (answer that I miss you/booty call text from that dude from last year who you know won’t call back, only for you to wake up on the 15th and start asking what are we now?).

  • Lastly Vals Day is not the time to be refreshing Instagram and pinterest obsessively:

It’s not the day to visit Bella Naija, infact stay away from any relationship/wedding based Social Media pages and blogs. Doing this will prevent you from going crazy, remind yourself that saying  NO and staying away from things that serve you is a part of Self Love.
