The Acting Managing Director of News Agency of  Nigeria (NAN), Mr Ibrahim Mammaga has given a special advice to Journalists by encouraging them to be fair and objective in their reportage.

Mammaga, who is also the Editor In-Chief of NAN, gave the charge when a group of journalists welcomed him during an assessment visit to Lafia office of the agency in Nasarawa state.

Mammaga described as worrisome the situation where some journalists portrayed the image of the country in bad light, and urged them to desist from such habit.

He advised that journalists should prioritise positive reportage that would portray the image of the country in good light.

The acting MD also enjoined journalists to cross check their facts thoroughly before going to the press to ensure accuracy.

He also advised media practitioners to be diligent and dedicated to work, adding “it is the only way to grow in the job’’.

Mammaga said that Nigeria journalists have been enjoying some level of press freedom compared to some other countries of the world, hence the need to support and project government’s activities and image in positive ways to the outside world.

“I was once a reporter like you, but today I’m privileged to take the responsibilities of an acting MD of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), be diligent and dedicated to your job.

“Objectivity in the reportage cannot be over emphasised, be objective, as a journalist and cross check your facts before going to the press,” he urged.
