10 Past and Present Technological Inventions by Nigerians

Published

on

Nigeria is the giant of Africa. Do not doubt that idiomatic declaration, the Giant has been asleep but as we can see she is awakening….

Inventions in Nigeria by Nigerians did not end with traps for catching games, it transformed to something else during the Civil War when “Ogbunigwe” a sweet but unfriendly landmine was invented by Biafrans. This is a tip of the iceberg because this Giant is really refusing to rest.

After Ogbunigwe, in 1970s, not too far from the Civil War, Autonov 1, an automobile that can move forward and backwards using four gears was invented. Are you thinking what I’m thinking about this Giant?

Let’s trek a little to 1997 when Ezekiel Izuogu invented Izuogu Z-600, the first indigenous automobile in Nigeria. This was a groundbreaking record for Nigeria at that time as the car was an all African brainchild, no foreign interruption!

The Giant rested a little after shaking Africa and then sneezed in 2012, alas! Something hooge! Four secondary school girls from the Yoruba tribe, Duro-Aina Adebola, Akindele Abiola, Faleke Oluwatoyin, and Bello Eniola invented a urine powered generator. One litre of urine gives six hours of electricity. Can you ponder how this Giant makes everything massive out of nothing?

In 2016, the Giant struck twice!
A youngman, Michael Ukoma invented a battery-operated fan with aluminum and cartons for rural families. He calls them “The Blue Wind Fans” they can last up to 19 hours after being fully charged and are of different sizes.

Then Timothy Addigi, an engineer from Tiv invented a customized tractor he calls ‘Ijodo’ made with materials in Nigeria to be used for farm jobs. Brace yourself! This Giant ain’t joking.

In April 2017, Kehinde Durojaiye invented a compact jet car.

October 2018, unveiled Anambra students who had no access to neither internet nor electricity, a rocket launcher and a bio-digester. A generator that operated with water is the first in the whole world to be invented. The machine generates 610 watts of electricity and was tested for about five hours in which it powered a bulb. The bio-digester breaks waste, plastics into useful valuable components.

Thereafter, in November 2019, young vibrant Jerry Mallo invented a fiber sports car he calls Bennie Purie. Jerry Mallo is a fabrication engineer and Chief Executive Officer of Bennie Technologies LTD. Another brave headline from the Giant!

However, it is in February 2022 that the Giant broke the internet totally! A 67-year-old man from Gombe invented a stove that needs no kerosene or gas or fuel to operate, just water. Fetch water and you have your meals cooked! Wonderful! Hadi Usman has invented a mystery. And many had commented that if electricity can emit from Kainji Dam then it’s possible.

This Giant is awakening and it’s just a little while, all these inventions will go global. But first, we must use them locally and that is how reasonable investors that must change this country into a producing country should come in.
